Transient life –

Maybe you’re someone like me who had an idea of how it should all look in a perfect world and found it hard to believe that it’s not like we imagine it should be. It took me a long time to realise and accept that there is no such thing as perfection. Perfection is an illusion. It’s like a photograph of someone. The photo is an image of that person for 1 billionth of a second or however long it took for the shutter to click. A Facebook post is an image of how someone wants you to see their life, their life in that particular moment in time, literally. If everything is always changing, how can we possibly judge ourselves against something that is static and gone?

Everything is transient. Somehow we got here from being babies. Skin cells are shedding and being created constantly. You are not the same person you were yesterday nor will you be the same tomorrow. This world of transience in which we inhabit obviously includes our bodies but it also includes our thoughts, our feelings and beliefs. They are like clouds and weather in the sky. Always changing, always shifting. It’s quite liberating if you think about it this way. However you feel now, it will probably change a bit later into something else and then change again.

You can help shift the mood, of course. Sit down and have a cup of tea, perhaps. Close your eyes breathe in for a slow count of four, exhale for a slow count of 5. Try it 10 times. Feel the breath expand in your chest and then contract. Maybe get outside for a bit, a quick walk in fresh air can do wonders if needed. Ring a friend and make them laugh. Get up, move your body and see how your perspective changes. A bit of self care goes a long way!
